Through The Roots – Miss Lovely – (Rootfire Premiere)

California Roots Music and Arts Festival is just a few days away. The yearly pilgrimage to Monterey, California brings together the most influential modern reggae bands in the world. Cali Roots has also become home turf for many people working in the scene to spread the good word about reggae music, like So Cal Street Team, Press Junkie PR, D2PC, Hill Kid, Victoria BC Ska Society, Easy Star, Dub Rockers, The Pier, Top Shelf Reggae, BudKing, etc. Simply put, the people you want to break bread with will all be there.

A lot of bands hustle to get new songs, artwork, and flyers ready to drop around the festival and it’s with good reason… there may be no other place in the world that you can bump into friends all weekend long who know the lyrics to songs you wrote in your mom’s apartment a few months before. If all goes as planned, that’s what it will be like for Evan Hawkins, lead singer of Through The Roots. Today we are featuring his band’s latest single “Miss Lovely” just in time for it to catch your ears as you board your flight, hop in your friends car, of blast it on your bicycles’ jambox on the road to Cali Roots.

“Miss Lovely” started off as a demo written by Hawkins and TTR’s keyboardist Brady O’Rear at Hawkins’ mother’s apartment. Maybe it was the feel of the couch as Hawkins’ hummed the melody because the track they wrote that day has swag. TTR did the song right by enlisting Hawaii’s A Grade producers Live Animaux. Hawkins says of Live Animaux “They helped us explore ways to make this song hit harder than our original version. Leslie Ludiazo, drummer of Hawaii’s Hot Rain Band and the backing drummer for J Boog, JP Kennedy of The Green, and EDM producer Graves, aka Christian Mochizuki, recreated the track to provide a sexier version of our original. Visualize them restyling the song with an extremely fly new outfit. We love working with these guys. They are insanely talented.”

If you see Hawkins walking around the festival or backstage as he prepares to enter the bowl as guest guitarist / backup vocals for Rebelution’s Sunday night headline set, give him a nod, a hug, or a handshake and be sure to introduce yourself and let him know that you listened to his music.

Release Date: May 30, 2016
The song will be available as Free Download or Pay What You Want here.

Seth founded Rootfire while he was managing a group of influential modern reggae acts, including The Green, John Brown’s Body, and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. The goal of the project has always been to connect the people who participate in the modern reggae movement.
