Single Showcase: Aaron Wolf & G. Love & Special Sauce – “Counting on You”

Aaron Wolf has been tearing it up. His blend of reggae, hip hop and folk underpins lyrics rooted in relentless possibility and endless possibilities. Unsurprisingly, that winning combination has struck a chord with audiences across the nation, culminating most recently in a spot on the 2025 Mission Bayfest festival where he opened for the likes of Sublime, Slightly Stoopid and Rebelution.

On that very same weekend, Wolf dropped his most recent track, “Counting on You.” As his fans have come to expect, it’s a vibe and a half—but there was an extra treat in the feature verse and harmonica skills by an absolute legend: G Love. Yep, that G. Love.

Lyrically, the track blends Wolf’s verses of resilience and healing through music with G. Love’s socially charged commentary on unity and community. What makes it extra relatable is that neither man approaches their topic with blind optimism. They both acknowledge that times do get tough, but uplift us with the assurance that we can get through it—with the right mindset, and by pulling together, we can count on each other.

With that in mind, the simplicity of the track fit perfectly. Piano, drums, and 808 bass along with G. Love’s mouth harp dancing over it all capture the feelings of the universal struggle, as well as eventual triumph. I don’t care how hard you are buddy, this one will probably get you right in the feels.

I touched base with Aaron to get his thoughts on the latest track and more.

RF: First of all, congratulations on Mission Bayfest! How was that experience?

AW: Amazing. It worked out so well that the timing came together like this!

RF: I love that you dropped “Counting on You” the same weekend. It seems like a pretty great introduction to Aaron Wolf the artist for those who may not have heard you yet. How was the response to the track?

AW: The response has been solid; it’s the most traction I’ve seen on a release to date so that always feels good.

RF: How did the collaboration with G. Love happen? I can’t think of a more perfect feature artist for that track.

AW: Me & G first met at Slightly Stoopid’s Closer to the Sun festival in Mexico. I was invited to perform during a mutual friend’s set (Kyle Smith). Chali Tuna and Miles from Stoopid all got up and did some freestyling. G and I exchanged numbers, and when I landed back home, the first text I got when my phone got service was from G saying “Let’s do a track together.”

A highlight of this weekend was going to the pre-party show at The Harp where I joined him and Miles on stage again. This one was another wonderful synchronicity, since he got added to the pre-party after I announced the song was dropping this weekend.

RF: You are on a roll, bredrin. What’s the plans for the rest of 2025?

AW: In 2025 I’m going to keep releasing new music that I’ve been cookin’ up with my friend EN Young, who produced the “Counting On You” track and sang the backing harmonies. He’s been a mentor and great friend to me over the years and I’m lucky to have him on my team!

RF: Thanks for taking the time Aaron – congrats and all the best!

There are two things King Sagz cares about more than anything in this world—music and words.

Growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, reggae and dancehall music sat alongside calypso and soca as sounds inherent to life itself. His father’s Marley, Tosh and Black Uhuru records soon gave way to the sounds of Buju Banton, Capleton and other dancehall titans.

After falling in love with hip-hop and all manner of rock, he began to seek out music that fused all of the above. The incredibly unique Trini reggae rock scene (don’t worry, he’ll be telling you all about it soon) blew his little teenaged mind, and of course when the Cali Reggae scene reached his ears, it was all over.

Nobody was more surprised than him, however, when after emigrating to Canada, he himself ended up in the reggae rock band, Staylefish, touring the continent and discovering what he himself had to offer as a musician. After a long break which allowed him to find himself and some much needed peace, he’s now back to the stage as King Sagz the Dreamer.

During that break, his second love—words—kept him afloat. Working in music journalism and as a freelance copywriter, he eventually landed as a lead copywriter at a tech company’s internal agency. He’ll be forever thankful for the stability it provided—but at the end of the day, Sagz is a Dreamer, and the dream is doing what you love. Return to music: check. And now, getting back to writing not just about music, but the music he loves most, feels like a dream come true.
