Rootfire World Premiere: Kimié Miner “Trouble”

On October 9, Hawaii’s Kimié Miner will release her self-titled album, featuring the smash pop-reggae tune “Trouble.” Supercharged by Miner’s divaesque performance and under the guise of Billy Van’s precision production, “Trouble” shines bright; with all the fuel needed to burn up radio stations worldwide, from the Pacific Islands to the BBC (listen up Gilles Peterson).

“This song is about the internal struggle we all have within ourselves. We want to do well but we all fall off the wagon at some point. It’s about the realization that we’re not perfect and learning how to deal with that. The only person who can save you is you.” – Kimié Miner

♫ Lyrics:

<Verse 1>
Trouble always follows me yeah
You know I try good but bad comes easily
I’m in the paper again
this mornin
You can read all about it
this is your warnin.

<Pre-chorus>
You and I we go in circles
spinnin round and round
and it all comes crashing down

<Chorus>
I’ve been livin at the bottom lately
hoping that you’d be the one to save me
but I’m alone on this broken highway
I’ve been burning like an open fire
Like the flames I’m reaching higher
But over and over again
It all comes crashing down

<Verse 2>
Trouble makes a fool outta (of) me
I get what I want, but it don’t come free.
I had an obsession, dropped my defenses, I lick my wounds full of regrets and
my pain was pulsating like novacain inside my vains
couldn’t feel the fire turn to ashes as you walked away.

<Pre-chorus>
You and I we go in circles
spinnin round and round
and it all comes crashing down

<Chorus>
I’ve been livin at the bottom lately
hoping that youʻd be the one to save me
but I’m alone on this broken highway
I’ve been burning like an open fire
Like the flames I’m reaching higher
But over and over again
It all comes crashing down

<Bridge>
All that we are
what we might have been
are dreams written out on pages so thin
We build a castle
don’t need a crown
but ashes to ashes
we all come crashing down

<Chorus>
I’ve been livin at the bottom lately
hoping that youʻd be the one to save me
but I’m alone on this broken highway
I’ve been burning like an open fire
Like the flames I’m reaching higher
But over and over again
It all comes crashing down
