This Friday, Janelle Phillips is set to drop her debut album, Lioness, on E.N Young’s Roots Musician Records. Young’s touch on the scene has been nothing short of infectious, and he continues to drive a roots progression by providing the perfect backdrop for upcoming singer/songwriter Phillips. “Grey Smoke” represents what I enjoy most about Young’s production: a melodic bassline, unforced lead vocals, tasteful dubs, sewn together by a hypnotic melodica and supportive harmonies.
