Painting Moving Pictures with The Hip Abduction

Music has an innate ability to transform. That perfect record doesn’t just provide a soundtrack, it carves a new attitude. Our surroundings become the land of tiny secrets waiting to be noticed, focus is honed into the present, stress melts into calm. Enter The Hip Abduction. Melding Island and West African rhythm and instrumentation with electro-flowerpop, the St. Petersburg, FL sextet is gaining traction nationally with their 2016 full-length album, Gold Under the Glow, produced by Dabney Morris.

Contrasting the synth-splashed Gold Under the Glow, 2017 sees THA offering a new acoustic rendition of “Holiday,” previously recorded on the band’s self-titled 2013 release. While staying true to the acoustic branding, “Holiday” takes the listener on the journeying adventure distinctive of The Hip Abduction.

Rootfire is a platform for the reggae music community, and it is this sense of community that drives us to put on events like Rootfire At The Park. One of our favorite things is having the opportunity to present acts that share this sense of community and show the follow-through to actively participate in and support foundations that are doing the good work. The Hip Abduction shows this initiative through their involvement with The Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge and Flagler Turtle Patrol.

The Hip Abduction is music that travels. The listener is transported to exotic distant lands with nothing more than one uninhibited task: dance. This is music that paints a picture, and then offers a hand to step inside the painting. Close your eyes, trust your ears and take flight.

THA appears Friday, November 10 at the second annual Rootfire At The Park in Cocoa, FL. Weekend passes and single day tickets are available here.
