King Tubby Studio Inside Your Laptop — Alborosie Dub Station Studio Plug-in

You can’t have dub music without reverb and delay, and for many, these classic effects sounded their best in the hands of dub pioneer and sound engineer legend, Osborne “King Tubby” Ruddock. His King Tubby Studio, tucked within the Waterhouse community of Kingston, Jamaica, created countless hit tracks from the 70s golden era of Jamaican dub. At the heart of his craft lied many prized, and usually modified, effects units, including his modified Fairchild spring reverb, “Big Knob” passive high-pass filter, and MCI two-track tape machine.

Any gearhead knows that these classic outboard units are hard to come by, hard to maintain, and hard to modify. Here steps in Italian-born, Jamaican-trained artist and engineer Alborosie. Years of crafting his mix skills and acquiring many coveted sound processing effects units put Alborosie in a unique position to make these hard-to-find units accessible to anyone with a computer and basic Digital Audio Workstation. Collaborating with AudioThing, Alborosie has produced a signature DAW plug-in featuring the units above, and aptly named the Alborosie Dub Station

Meticulously collected samples from King Tubby’s original studio equipment have been analyzed and carefully recreated into this versatile sound plug-in for in-the-box mixing. Whether you’re a laptop beat-maker, home studio enthusiast or professional engineer, now you too can achieve lingering tape delay, reverb-drenched guitar skank, and persuasive flying cymbal hi-hats in your mix. The only question is: What will you dub first?
