First Listen: Miss Cactus – “Tiempo”

Whenever I hit a new town my favorite thing to do is scan the radio. All over the US, reggae and reggaeton beats are popping up on the airwaves and it’s the freshest future music out there IMO. Miss Cactus is blazin on a turn up in “Tiempo.” The tune delivers a bed of steel drum melodies mixed with Juno keyboard sounds being driven by a mix of house and reggaeton beats – all smoothed up with a mellow melodica throughout. It’s early evening. I got the windows down. Miss Cactus’ voice is smooth like soft breezes blowing clouds across a moonlit sky. The coming EP Luv Mirage is diverse in its vibe. It’s got the choppy tight funk that speaks to the pelvis while offering up Tame Impala like melancholy for the thoughtful mind. It’s a safe and curious space to be, and will pair nicely with the butterflies of summer love.

Bass player and songwriter for Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, James feels, plays and lives the music. Lucky for us he also has the knack for remembering what happened and writing it down in his own voice.
