Divine Spark: Natty Nation in the 5th Dimension

You have never existed in the first dimension. A photograph holds you simultaneously in the second and the fourth while you read these words in the third. Some say that the fifth dimension is love. A timeless place without shape. Music is all of these. Its practitioners and experiencers explore the spotty flashes in-between. From oxidized iron on dead dinosaur tape, to radio waves floating in space, to the memory of a mothers coo, music transcends the beyond into the center of your dome.

Meanwhile, someone cooked up a portal into the 5th dimension. A midwestern reggae staple known as Natty Nation. They have sourced ingredients from all of the love reggae has provided to inspire over the American heartland. “5th Dimension Dub” jumped out at the Rootfire team as an audible dish to share in the stew of reggae being released this week.

Natty Nation releases Divine Spark on March 11, their 5th album and first since 2010. Aside from “5th Dimension Dub,” each track is mixed by Errol Brown, Bob Marley and Rebelution’s live sound engineer and the producer of such reggae classics as Gregory Isaac’s “Night Nurse.”

Natty Nation has performed in and around the world. They look within to seek the far out. In this time, they are floating in space. With you, and with me. 5th dimensionally.

Bass player and songwriter for Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, James feels, plays and lives the music. Lucky for us he also has the knack for remembering what happened and writing it down in his own voice.
