Rootfire World Premiere: Collie Buddz “Prescription”

Collie Buddz’ rabid international fan base has been begging for the dance hall sensation’s first full album release since his 2007 self-titled debut and while they’ll have to continue waiting for now, his latest single, “Prescription,” released today to select media sources, is another sure-fire dance hall classic that will satiate appetites in the short run.

“We have a lot more in store for everybody! Trust me. It’s gonna be crazy!” Collie Buddz said, when asked if fans should expect a new record soon. “I just wanna get some songs out there. It could be apart of the upcoming album which is in the works and is long overdue. We’ll see. But for right now it’s about catering to the fans that want some new music from me. Gotta keep it moving you know!?”

An epic ganja anthem, written in collaboration with Ashante Reid aka Taranchyla (Madd Spider), produced by Supa Dups of Black Chiney, and cut at the famed Circle House Studios in Miami, “Prescription” shows off Collie’s bona fides as the world’s preeminent dance hall MC and the spokesmaster general for the international movement to legalize marijuana.

Collie Buddz and Supa Dups have teamed up before– most notably on his hits “Blind to You,” “Tomorrow’s Another Day,” and “Sensimillia”– and “Prescription” shows off the same combination of juicy beats, clean hooks, and mind-bending effects.

“The song really happened quickly,” Collie Buddz said. “We were all just in a vibe. We wrote and recorded it at the legendary Circle House Studios. Big up to Inner Circle! Love the vibes there!”
“Prescription” is a cleverly articulated critique of the misplaced logic of the war on marijuana, an indictment of the pharmaceutical obsession in the medical community, and a love song to marijuana’s healing powers. Collie Buddz has never apologized for his green obsession, teaming up with legalization giants like Snoop Lion in the past, and “Prescription” seems perfectly scripted to become the soundtrack for the medical marijuana movement.

“How the herb they wan stop when they legalize a den for the crime rate drop?/The buddha just relax, give we a ganja tax then we wouldn’t have use for the cops,” Collie Buddz rhymes.
Is there an explicit political message in the lyric?

“Legalize it. Don’t criticize it,” Collie Buddz said.

It’s an epic start to 2015 for Collie Buddz, who is heading out on a three-week European tour that kicks off with a show in Amsterdam on February 19. His U.S. fans can start looking forward to the Prescription Tour, which will kick off in Colorado “around 4/20 time.” And then there’s the album…

“I WILL be releasing an album this year!” Collie Buddz said. “That much I promise.”
