CD-Redistribution Network

cd redistro 2

How it works:

Artists are proud of their music and hope that people hear it. The musician, manager, publicist, or fan may walk up to another artist, tap them on the shoulder and say “This is my friends band, you have to check it out, it sounds like you guys mixed with XXX, but with a little more reverb”. Other times, the CD is mailed to an NPR station, blogger, booking agent etc. Everyday- an uncountable amount of CD’s are shipped or handed out in hopes that they will get heard.

The receiver of the album is given a responsibility (even if they never asked for it) to do something with the music. If they listen and don’t like it, they likely wont tell you. If they never listen to it because they don’t have a CD player, then it becomes wasted plastic and cardboard, and if they keep it on their shelf for “someday”, it takes up space. Sometimes- just sometimes they love it.

For all these reasons, we are starting a CD-Redistribution network in which:

#1 we are collecting CD’s from band members that have received CD’s at shows from fans. We are also collecting CD’s from record labels, booking agents, and bloggers who have received the albums in the mail.

#2 we will then mail the CD’s to you.

When you order a tshirt, sticker, or anything physical from the Rootfire network, a random album will arrive with your package. The album will come with a card that lists the artists contact info. If you like what you heard- you can send them a note and the artist know you enjoyed their music.

*When you order anything from Rootfire you will have the ability to opt out of this program if you do not wish to receive the physical CD.

If you have a taste that you hope we can match, drop us a line about what kind of sound you dig. If you like it Heavy we may drop a Dub Trio album in the mail. If you like it roots- then it might be 10 Ft. Ganja Plant. etc you get the drift.

If you are interested in contributing to the CD library please send an email to: [email protected].

If you have a photo of a box of CD’s you either received, mailed out, or have collected send it to us and we will post it in the CD-Redistribution network gallery.

Seth founded Rootfire while he was managing a group of influential modern reggae acts, including The Green, John Brown’s Body, and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. The goal of the project has always been to connect the people who participate in the modern reggae movement.
